Post Gurugram incident, U’khand police orders schools to verify staff, install CCTV cameras

DEHRADUN: Alarmed by the death of 7-year-old boy in the washroom of Ryan International School in Gurugram, the Uttarakhand police has issued an advisory to management of all schools across Uttarakhand to carry out verification of school staff, drivers, conductors and guards. The school authorities have also been instructed to install CCTV cameras within their respective institutions and keep recording of people entering the school. ADG Law and Order Ashok Kumar told TOI that the Gurugram incident was a serious issue and schools across Uttarakhand need to take precaution and inform the police about all their employees and guards. "We have issued an advisory for school authorities to follow the given instructions. The police chief in all 13 districts have been told to meet the school management in their respective areas and guide them on the issue," Kumar said. He further stated that in addition to the installation of CCTV cameras, the school authorities need to ensure that they were in a functional condition. "At times, it has been seen that though CCTV cameras have been installed but they were not working due to one technical snag or the other," added the senior police officer. The SSPs/SPs in all 13 districts have also been told to form teams which would go the schools and check the security arrangements there. "It is an extremely serious matter and the school management needs to act promptly in this regard. They should get the verification of the employees done and are also required to regularly update the police about any changes in the school staff or security guards," said Kumar. A senior officer on ground of not being named said that previously such drives to ensure installation of CCTV cameras in educational institutes and verification of employees have failed to derive the desire results.
